KNE​ ​follows​ ​the​ ​Smart​ ​Snacks​ ​in​ ​School​ ​nutrition​ ​standards​ ​as​ ​set​ ​forth​ ​by​ ​the​ ​U.S.​ ​Department of​ ​Agriculture.​ ​​ ​This​ ​means​ ​all​ ​food​ ​provided​ ​at​ ​school​ ​during​ ​the​ ​school​ ​day​ ​must​ ​meet​ ​this​ ​set of​ ​standards.​ ​​ ​This​ ​includes​ ​snacks​ ​provided​ ​for​ ​class​ ​and/or​ ​parties.​ ​​ ​You​ ​can​ ​find​ ​a​ ​complete list​ ​of​ ​snacks​ ​that​ ​meet​ ​the​ ​district’s​ ​standards​ ​on​ ​our​ ​website​ ​or​ ​the​ ​link​ ​provided​ ​here:

Smart Snacks Food List

Here​ ​a​re ​some​ ​healthy​ ​snack​ ​food​ ​examples:

•​ ​Cereal​ ​with​ ​milk

•​ ​Low-fat​ ​cheese​ ​melted​ ​on​ ​a​ ​whole-grain tortilla

•​ ​Fresh​ ​cut-up​ ​fruit​ ​with​ ​yogurt​ ​for​ ​dipping

•​ ​Graham​ ​crackers​ ​and​ ​low-fat​ ​milk

•​ ​Yogurt​ ​with​ ​whole​ ​grain​ ​cereal​ ​or​ ​fruit on​ ​top

•​ ​Baked​ ​tortilla​ ​chips​ ​and​ ​salsa

•​ ​Baked​ ​potato​ ​with​ ​cottage​ ​cheese or​ ​salsa 

 •​ ​Vegetables​ ​and​ ​low-fat​ ​dip

•​ ​Whole-grain​ ​crackers​ ​or​ ​toast​ ​with​ ​peanut butter​ ​or​ ​hummus

•​ ​Fruit​ ​salad

•​ ​Low-fat​ ​string​ ​cheese

•​ ​Yogurt​ ​smoothie​ ​(yogurt,​ ​ice,​ ​milk​ ​and​ ​any type​ ​of​ ​fruit)

•​ ​Apples,​ ​grapes,​ ​oranges​ ​cut​ ​into​ ​“smiles,” or​ ​any​ ​kind​ ​of​ ​fruit

However, as much as we are trying to encourage healthy options for snacks and treats we also want to give parents a choice.  We do have a change, for birthday treats you may bring in sweet store bought treats if you choose.  We will continue to offer healthy store bought options at parties but will incorporate some sweet treats as well.  We do encourage you be very diligent with allergies in your child's classroom and again, everything must be store bought and sealed.
